Ronald McDonald "Under the Sea-The Seven Seas!" Dinner Party

July 07, 2007

A themed dinner party was held to help rejuvenate the families living at the Ronald McDonald House. They need rejuvenation because they are in a strange city away from their families and friends and their child is in the hospital with a serious medical problem.

This themed dinner party "Under the Sea - the Seven Seas!" occured on the special date of July 7, 2007 or 7/7/07 and so we had seven surprises set up for these families. We served Seven and Seven Mocktails, a Seven Layer Salad and many other surprises such as a sundae bar which we served, you guessed it… seven toppings!!!

It is so important for families to attend one of our dinner parties because they need to feel important, they need to know that strangers are caring about them and most importantly, they need to smile!!! And when they walked away from this dinner party, they were smiling from ear to ear.

Kit Andrews from Channel 12 new is the spokesperson for the House and we were very fortunate that she and her husband and camera crew took the time to come to this dinner party.

We normally cook for 120 people and I would say we had over 100 people in attendance. Our volunteers for this event were mainly our scholarship recipients and their families and friends. We asked our volunteers to arrive at 4pm so that we can transform the dining area into a sea of fish and then we had crafts for the children at 5pm and dinner was served at 6pm. The dining room looked beautiful and we think a great time was had by all.

Foundation Wrap-Up

Summer is flying by and the weather has been very hot lately. We've been busy with planning future events with the Foundation and also hosting the heart trasnplant picnic, our Ronald McDonald dinner, supplying campers at Camp Joyful Hearts with a backpack filled with goodies for them, hosting the Hopeful Hearts Picnic this coming Sunday and planning the float for the Harvest Home Parade and of course, working on our fundraiser - Let's Dance for the Heart of It - Hooray for Hollywood!.

On a personal note, Spencer has left for Eastern Kentucky University as a freshman and Carly will be going to University of Cincinnati in September. We, like many of you, are going through a transition in our life. It is very welcomed but it's still a change. A wise young man told me once to take time to be still, so while Jerry and I are running the Foundation, we are trying to make sure to take time for ourselves as well - which is very important.

We welcome you at anytime to join in and help us with Aubrey's Foundation. We would gladly love to have you join us. Please don't feel like you have to spend hours at volunteering - We would love if you could take the time to help us with many different tasks such as making phone calls, for instance, that would help to gather auction items for our Dance in November, would be wonderful.

We truly appreciate all of the support and guidance you have given us in the past, present and for future endeavors as well.

Fondly,

Nancy
